A 10k for something bigger than me
In October, I’ll be taking on a personal challenge — running 10K through the beautiful surroundings of Chatelherault Country Park — and using it as an opportunity to raise money to help others.
For me, Alan Cares is about recognising that wellbeing isn’t just about looking after ourselves. Sometimes it’s about stepping outside our own lives, doing something positive, and using what we can to make a difference to someone else.
There’s something particularly fitting about taking on this challenge in the outdoors. Running through woodland, along natural trails and surrounded by the autumn landscape gives me the chance to switch off, breathe, move and reconnect with nature.
It’s a reminder that wellbeing can be found in simple things — fresh air, movement, time outdoors and doing something that feels meaningful.
The Chatelherault event is a trail-running event organised by Up and Running Events, with a choice of distances for different abilities. The 10K route takes runners away from the roads and into the country park, combining woodland paths, natural terrain and scenic views.
But the 10K isn’t really the finish line.
The aim is to use this challenge to raise money for others and to start a wider conversation about wellbeing, giving back and the positive things we can do — for ourselves and for those around us.
I’ll share my progress along the way, from the training and the inevitable moments of “why on earth did I sign up for this?” 😂 right through to race day.
One run. One challenge. One opportunity to care.
And hopefully, by the time I cross that finish line, I’ll have raised a little money, created a few smiles and reminded myself — and maybe someone else — that doing something good can start with taking that first step.
